Kim is a pop-culture enthusiast who reads brand strategy in everything from a Beyoncé album rollout to a Honey Pot ad. (If she can connect your brand to a cultural moment, she will.)
Above all, she builds for people who've been told to play it safe and saw that for the trap that it is.
She's spent 10+ years in content creation, marketing, graphic design, and web design — a very rare combination.
Zag Studios was born in one of the hardest seasons of its founder's life. Most origin stories get sanded down until they sparkle We're not about that over here, though. Let's get to the real, sib.
The Birth of Zag Studios
The founder, Kim Diggs, learned that she had a 4 centimeter tumor on her adrenal gland but did not know why or what that meant.
After visiting several doctors, an endocrinologist requested Kim complete various rounds of testing to rule out malignancy.
The doctor found that there was nothing pointing to cancer, but because of the size, it would have to be surgically removed.
Kim had never had surgery before.
Kim received a date for surgery and began a round of testing requested from the surgeon that would determine the type of surgery she would receive (minimally invasive or an open adrenalectomy).
The difference between the two is the open surgery is a last resort and only done when cancer is suspected.
Based on the results of several CT scans, MRIs and blood tests, Kim was permitted to receive the minimally invasive surgery, meaning it was not suspected that the tumor was cancer.
After nearly four years, she was laid off from her position as a content marketing manager. The lay off came only two weeks before her scheduled adrenal gland surgery.
The surgery was a success and she was told the tumor would be sent to a pathologist to determine for sure if it was malignant. She underwent a painful 6-week recovery.
She was told no call is a good thing.
Just when she thought it was all over, banking on the confidence of the care team before the surgery, she got a call from her surgeon.
On March 4, she was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer. By the end of the month, she was already having her second surgery, this time to have her thyroid removed.
In the face of a new cancer diagnosis, she decided to bet on herself and start Zag Studios.
She launched the business on May 8, deciding to donate 15% of the proceeds she made that week to the American Cancer Society.
Despite her intense nerves and imposter syndrome, she decided to apply to be a speaker during HER Texas' Inaugural HER Texas House.
Kim was chosen to be a panelist for the discussion, "AI Without the Hype: What Business Owners Need to Know RIght Now."
After undergoing Radioactive Iodine Therapy, Kim was found to be CANCER FREE!
